BEYOND BROADWAY gives us the opportunity to serve the students of New York City who lack access to education in the arts. Teaching artists from Broadway provide opportunities to learn music, choreography, acting and dance in specialized one day programs that take place in the classroom or at a rehearsal studio. These programs include a lunch where students and instructors come together and discuss the arts in a question and answer session. When possible Project Broadway provides free or low cost tickets for students to attend a Broadway or Off Broadway production in conjunction with the workshop. The goal of this program is to inspire students to lead ambitious and confident lives through hands-on theater education.
Based on the success of this workshop, a second program titled BROADWAY BOUND was created to inspire children who are interested in careers in the theater arts. Participants have the opportunity to meet with stage managers, costume designers, wig designers, lighting technicians, performers, casting directors, marketing managers and Broadway house staff. Students are part of an open discussion where they will learn the in’s and out’s of working on Broadway and beyond.
